Laleeta Tongo

About Laleeta

A storyteller, an expressionist, and a dreamer with an intent to make a mark, born and brought up in a small town in Maharashtra, India, and later settled in the United States, Laleeta hailed from a family of artists.

Her inherent talent comes from her grandfather, Lt. Shri. Sharadchandra Tongo - a famous Marathi novelist of India. Laleeta has been in touch with literature of various sorts and has always been determined to produce some of her own - always shy to publish.

After post-graduating in English Literature, Laleeta has started working as a curricula developer, and content writer in MNC for the last 15 years.

The Big World Studios

Simultaneously, in 2017, Laleeta and her closest friend started a Pune-based, media production company named The Big World Studios under which she has written and produced a couple of short films, feature-length films in Marathi, and several scripts for promotional and ad videos.

“Laleeta and Swapnil have together explored a wide range of design elements, from color and form to poetic verse and composition and started to exhibit under the name “Elements of Design”. Each exhibition has been a unique journey into the world of aesthetics, where they have skillfully blended their individual perspectives and talents to create stunning visual experiences.

Their past exhibitions have drawn art enthusiasts and design aficionados from all walks of life. Visitors have been captivated by the innovative and thought-provoking pieces that Laleeta and Swapnil have presented. These exhibitions have not only been a showcase of their artistic prowess but also a platform for meaningful dialogue about the role of words and pictures in our lives.

She religiously enrolled on Stanford's Creative Writing workshop which gave her an entirely new perspective on writing.

Inspiration

While talking about her writing skills, we must not forget to mention her inherent talent comes from her grandfather, Lt. Shri. Sharadchandra Tongo - a famous Marathi novelist in Maharashtra, India.

With the intent of continuing his legacy coupled with her keen observational skills, Laleeta used visuals from nature, the experiences people go through that she witnessed around her, music, and daily activities to examine universal themes like the wonders of relationships, the identity of the self, happiness, death and spirituality, philosophy and love.

And when she actually pens down, these observations take a shape of words and create a beautiful, vivid cloud of imagery of the untouched side of human emotions.

If you read her writing, you will come to know that expressing the innermost human feelings via different forms of medium is something which she holds very dear to her heart. Poetry is where she feels most at home.

Personal Life

Until last year, she had thought that writing is a silent and solitary activity which majorly takes place to provide pleasure to her pen.

But as she started receiving positive criticism from people around, she’s realized that they are not only held in close connection with the classic literature but could also serve as a lighthouse to the students of literature and art.

When she’s not sipping a cup of tea and scribbling the plot of her next story in her notepad, she enjoys cooking, decorating, goofing around with her son, Archis, an adorable goldendoodle dog named Iris, and being outdoors with her sports and nature-loving husband, Suhas.

Glimpses of Her Work

SHE IS THE TRUTH

Has she allowed herself to be won?
She is quite similar to the truth –
right there but difficult to understand.
Difficult to understand by not even her parents,
but a man too, whom she calls her world,
But a man whom she calls her world never pronounced this before,
or thought or put this up for interrogation.

Or even if he put this up for interrogation,
still every generation is so confused
and answered as if they were the first to discern.
First, to discern yet so transitory, men almost felt that paltry,
and delusional women have no source.

If women have no source in the vision of the wise men,
then why do they drift into insanity and come back to us again?
The falseness of an opinion is not for us any objection,
we tend to see the world beyond logic.
The world beyond logic is the opposite of prejudice,
where the heart’s desire is abstract and undefined.

However abstract and undefined proved to be women’s existence,
the truth shall remain no distant.
The non-distant truth is shown by the fountain of youth,
those unskilled methods of winning her consistent.

Winning her consistent is the only prized possession,
then what happens to your awe-inspiring, knowledge-finding quest?
Tell me, has she allowed herself to be won?
Because SHE IS THE TRUTH - right there but difficult to understand.

Published Work

IF I KNEW I WAS A WRITER TOO –

The personal expressions and fantasies of an ordinary girl who not only believed in God but also in dreams, devotion, adventures, stories, oceans, and poem.

This was never meant to be a book, as Laleeta wrote these expressions recollecting her journey as a writer. She just wanted to scribble the experiences people go through that she witnessed around her - music, and daily activities to examine universal themes like the wonders of relationships, the identity of the self, happiness, death and spirituality, philosophy, her fantasies, and love.

After writing more than a handful of poems, web series, and regional films; it was the right time for her to publish her first collection of poetry. If you read her writing, you will know that expressing the innermost human feelings via different forms of the medium - is something which she holds very dear to her heart. Poetry is where she feels most at home.

She wonders if her grandfather – who was a renowned Marathi novelist from India – had known that she could also write well, they would’ve discussed several ideas and he might have seen the artist in her.

This book holds a special place in the hearts of its readers, not solely due to its touching content, but also because of the remarkable visual graphics directed by Swapnil and designed by Shashank. These visuals not only complement the narrative but elevate it to another level, enhancing the overall reading experience. Swapnil's artistic dedication and attention to detail shine through in every graphic, making them an integral and unforgettable part of this literary work.
